Incredibly clever Thalborn descended from flash-evolved octopuses.
Thalborn who gained sentience in the aftermath of the bombs’ radiation, the Kraken are humanoids descended from the octopuses that dwelled in the North Atlantic ocean. Their resemblance to humanity varies a lot between families and even individuals, some appearing almost entirely human...except for every Kraken having a number of suckered tentacle-like arms around their mouth. At the other end of the spectrum, some Kraken greatly resemble their seaborne ancestors, barely humanoid at all.
A consistency across all Kraken species is their impressive logical intelligence; even Kraken hatchlings are usually capable of solving complex puzzles that give human adults pause. Increasingly independent for the first year or two after hatching, young Kraken develop very quickly, often appearing fully grown by the end of their third year. This process tends to be noticeably faster for those with less humanoid bodies, with some legless Kraken reaching their full size within a year. Whether they move on legs or arms, all Kraken have an aptitude for escaping confinement and restraint.
+2 and a +1 to different stats, one of which must be INT.
Descended from octopuses, Kraken are soft-bodied creatures able to radically alter their shape in order to escape capture. Most are also blessed with suckers on their limbs, giving them impressive grip strength.
You have The Glow on any rolls to knowingly evade or escape restraining effects, or to resist attempts to disarm you.
Kraken traits may seem a little eclectic...because they sort of are. Octopuses are weird. With a good Intelligence, strong grip, and a boneless body, there is a lot one can do with them. The three species allow you to initially specialise further, whether your focus is smarts, fights, or sneaks.
The most reclusive and unwelcoming of the Kraken species is the Deep Kraken, descended from the globose octopus that dwelled in the deep sea in centuries past. Paler in skin than other of their kind, Deep Kraken are different in many ways beyond the obvious. Like their ancestors, they prefer the cold and dark places of the world, naturally resistant to lower temperatures and able to see further in the dark than most.
Venturing out from their isolated dens and settlements, Deep Kraken have shown an intelligence that rivals their Nova kin, but are often less inclined to share it with others. Once they grow accustomed to people, however, having a Deep Kraken in one’s community can be a great boon.
The evolutionary benefits that aided the ancestors of Deep Kraken are still helpful in the post-poc, making them feel at home in the cold, dark places of the world.
You have Night Vision.
At Lv6 you are also Strong against Chill damage.
