The things used - generally outside of combat - to do virtually anything in the game.

What Are Skills

Skills govern how well you do things beyond combat.

While some may have combat applications, they’re generally more for puzzle solving, traversing the world, or interacting with NPCs.

Theoretically anything you can think of, if it has any chance of failure at all, is possible through the use of one or more skills.

Skills are the application of your physical or mental capability.

Stats – and stat checks – are passive, while skills are active. Put another way, stats are what you can do, but skills are what you are doing.

e.g. Observation is when you keep an eye out over an area. Examination is when you closely look; it is more involved and active than the former.

Skill Scores

Your base Skill Score is determined by your stats.

Each skill is derived from one or more stats. If you have no skill points in a skill, your score is the same as its related stat.

e.g. Teo has no skill points in Force, and a MGT of -2. Therefore his Force Skill Score is -2. He also has 2 OBS, so his Architecture is 2. If Teo then puts 2 skill points into Architecture, his Skill Score increases to 4.

If a skill is derived from more than one stat then the GM decides which you add to the Skill Score for any individual check, based on the nature of the check.

If multiple stats are equally viable, then use whichever stat is higher.

e.g. Threat is derived from MGT or COM. If physically intimidating someone, MGT would probably be suitable. If trying to use words to threaten, such as blackmail, then COM is probably more fitting.

Skill Points

You gain 1 skill point each time you level up.

You can also Hone to gain new skill points.

You can only add skill points to skills in which you have Interest; these are picked when you choose your original job and class.

You can also gain new Interests by levelling up, Honing, or due to events of the campaign (at the GM’s discretion).

Each point adds +1 to that Skill Score. Skills can’t have more than 8 skill points in them.
